If you're a smoker, then smoking has probably wormed its way into every aspect of your life. There will be things you find it hard to imagine doing without a cigarette. Your ideas about who you are will probably involve tobacco in some way. You probably reward yourself with cigarettes at those times when all of us think we deserve some comfort or a treat. You may measure out your time with cigarettes. 'I'll just have this cigarette and then I'll do it.'

Successful quitters need to change all these things as well as learning to do without the nicotine and breaking the habits.

Hypnotherapy assists you to change a whole set of habitual behaviours and psychological dependency. Based on an in depth assessment of all the ways have involved tobacco in your life, hypnotherapy will:

• boost your determination to free yourself from smoke and tobacco
• help you believe in yourself as a non-smoker
• strengthen your conviction that smoking is harmful to you
• increase your self control and reduce cravings
• teach you to relax

Psychological preparation has been shown to be highly significant as a success factor. This individually based work forms a large part of both the quit smoking programmes I offer.

The single session programme works best for those quitters who are confident that they are fully ready to say goodbye to nicotine. A powerful hypnotic session based on your personal smoking history and desire to change is combined with practical plans to ensure there are few reminders of smoking during your early days as a non smoker.

The three session programme is for people a little less sure of their determination. The first of these sessions is spent strengthening your determination to quit. You learn ways to show yourself just how little you really need tobacco. For some people tobacco is almost like an old friend. You may need to say goodbye. The second session uses hypnosis to help you finally let go of the habit and to become a non-smoker. The third session helps you maintain your determination to live a cleaner and healthier life free of the costs and burdens of tobacco.

I don't help people to give up smoking. I help them to become non-smokers. Non smokers don't have the sense there is something missing in their lives. They don't need to substitute for cigarettes. They don't think about excuses to start again. They don't need will power, because they have broken their psychological dependence. Changing your mind set from being a smoker to being a non smoker is the most important part of stopping and staying stopped.
