Before qualifying as a hypnotherapist Roger worked in the NHS as a nurse and then as a senior manager. He became fascinated by the way people change. 'I worked with lots of people who were making big changes in their lives.' he says 'or sometimes they couldn't make changes they wanted to. I wondered what the difference was, and what would help. Sometimes the help people got seemed to make them less able to change. I've always known that if you want to help people you have to believe in them. That's why I chose to become a hypnotherapisttherapist.' Roger undertook his hypnotherapy training with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis. He is a member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis and bound by their code of conduct. He carries full professional indemnity insurance. Roger's EMDR training is recognised by EMDR UK and Ireland. He is a member of the EMDR Association. Roger has completed the joint Oxford Centre for Cognitive Therapy/Gloucestershire Primary Mental Health Service Foundation Skills Course in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Roger is also trained as a counsellor and as a solution-focussed brief therapist. Roger holds clinics at the Gloucester Natural Therapies Centre and the Natural Health Centre in Bishops Cleeve, near Cheltenham. |
Roger's experience in personal change and development is extensive. He worked as a mental health nurse in GP surgeries in Devon and Gloucestershire for over 20 years where he became known for his approachability and his respect for all his patients. 'Although my clinical work in the health service was under the banner of "mental health"' says Roger 'nearly all of it was to do with the things that concern all of us a lot of the time. How we stay in control of our behaviour. How to think positively. How to improve the way we feel about ourselves.' Roger went on to become the mental health lead for West Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust. He has a Master's degree in evidence based healthcare from the University of Oxford. Until 2006, Roger was the chair of SHARE Young People's Counselling Service, a Gloucestershire based charity providing free psychological care to young people. Roger is married with four grown up children, two step children, two grandchildren and a cat. He loves to sail and has twice crossed the Atlantic in a small boat. |
