Most of us have some irrational fears. But these fears can sometimes take over our lives. It's no surprise that if we fear something, we tend to avoid it. Yet the more we avoid it, the more powerful the fear becomes. For someone with a phobia, even the mention of the feared object may cause a sense of panic. No amount of telling yourself to be sensible helps. You may know that the fear isn't reasonable, but your brain simply continues to feel the terror. Having a fear like this can also be deeply embarrassing. It's hard to let other people know about it. The consequence is often even more avoidance. To avoid letting others see your fear, you can find it easier just to avoid people altogether. So the fear just goes on getting bigger and bigger in our minds. Hypnotherapy has an excellent track record in helping people overcome fears and phobias. Your brain learned to associate something with danger and hypnotherapy can enable you to unlearn it, usually quite quickly. And once you stop believing in the fear, you've beaten it; it has nothing to feed on. |
