'One
of the most effective treatments for conditions where anxiety or depression
is the main problem' CBT has been found to be helpful with: Anxiety |
CBT aims to help you change the way you think - the cognitive part - and the way you act - the behavioural part. Unlike therapies such as counselling, it is very much present and future based. CBT helps you understand the workings of your own mind, so that you come to be in better control. It gives you your 'owner's manual' for your brain. CBT is based on teaching you the cognitive approach to understanding feelings, so you will need to spend enough time to grasp it. This will usually take 6-8 sessions. CBT is about as effective as medication at treating any single episode of depression. However, research suggests CBT is more effective at preventing relapses. CBT seems to be rather more effective than medication in treating anxiety. |
