Before becoming a therapist in 2005, Roger worked in the NHS as a nurse, a trainer and as a senior manager. He has always been fascinated by the way people change.
After more than thirty years experience in the NHS and in private practice, Roger is hugely experienced in helping people with every kind of psychological problem.
'I hope that my patients feel confident and comfortable with me,' he says. 'Over the years I've come to respect the courage and determination with which people battle their problems. I've never yet met someone who didn't.'
Roger undertook hypnotherapy training with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis. He is a member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis and bound by their code of conduct.
Roger is also an EMDR practitioner accredited by EMDR UK and Ireland. He is a member of the EMDR Association.
He has completed the joint Oxford Centre for Cognitive Therapy/Gloucestershire Primary Mental Health Service Course in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
In 2010 he undertook training in Affect Centred Therapy. Roger is also trained as a counsellor and as a solution-focused brief therapist.
This wide background in different therapies means that he is able to adapt his approach to different people and problems. There is no 'one size fits all' in human psychology.
Roger holds clinics in Gloucester and in Bishops Cleeve, Cheltenham.
Roger worked as a mental health nurse in GP surgeries in Devon and Gloucestershire for over 20 years where he became known for his approachability and his respect for all his patients.
For several years Roger was the mental health lead for West Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust. He has a Master's degree in evidence-based healthcare from the University of Oxford.
Until 2006, Roger was the chair of SHARE Young People's Counselling Service, a Gloucestershire based charity providing free psychological care to young people.
Roger is married with four grown up children, two step children, two grandchildren and a cat. He loves to sail and has crossed the Atlantic in a small boat two and a half times.
